humerus - not!More of the Broken Shoulder Chronicles (BSC)

Well, the good news from the Orthopedic surgeon today was he won’t be cutting me open. It seems the Humerus (badly worded bone) is aligned enough to let it heal as it is. He was concerned my osteoporotic bones (after sitting around immobilized for 24years) could prove problematic if needed to be pinned (’like putting a bolt into swiss cheese’ is something like how the Physio put it) so we’re trying not to go down that path.

So, two more weeks of not moving the arm at all before another xray and appt. Which means two more weeks of not driving my wheelchair and even more restricted mobility than normal.

Still, it could be worse……I’ve had worse. At least I can still operate the computer enough from my Horizontal HQ (aka bed) to keep up with work and stay in touch and generally on top of things.

I’ll post more on the BSC as things happen. But it seems these type of chronicles are just long and uneventfull mostly.

  1. Good news re: no cutting up. Here’s to a quick recovery.

  2. Ah Dave! You need to look after those shoulders so take it easy. Clinically and technically I can understand the concern of your medico & physio. Hope it doesn’t dent your enthusiasm for playing around with kids! My hip dramas really slow me up but it will be the thing that pushes me to a THR when I can’t have fun with the girls (my 2 & 4yo ones!)

    All the best, Lloyd.

  3. […] This podcast is really background to my response to Hugh here and was the means by which Mike helped me by discussing the issues and doing the bulk of the typing for me - the task I find slowest while laid up. […]

  5. Cheryl/Ann. Thanks for your well wishes.

Blob is one of those words I use to test things - like when you need to send a test email and don’t know what to write, I often use Blob.

So it’s a word that I use when I need a word quickly and I don’t want to think too hard about it - stream of conciousness word - like a blog really!

    Cheers, Dave.

  6. […] It also means once again I’m stuffed…moreso now since breaking my (good) arm means I’ve lost some range and I can’t reach my ear to attempt to press the earpiece button. […]

  7. Dear Dave
do hope this letter finds you more cheerful. Cheryl saw you last Friday but was unable to speak as she was running late to get to PQA. Must have felt good to be away from your horizontal h/q after all this time. Have you been able to get a copy of Dave Allens audiotape as yet. We need a good laugh too! We went to see Honk if you are Jesus which was a good laugh except for seeing the internal shots of bowels and ovaries on screen. It was quite titlatting. Saw McBeth which was exhausting - Stephen Dillane was on stage for over two hours playing every part. It was hard to concentrate all that time. The band was interesting. Let’s hope in two years time we are all fit and healthy and have a good laugh watching the Umbilical Bros for example. Hi to Peter, andwe haven’t forgotten we promised a cake. Take care and cheers from Cheryl and Ann
